For a countertop option, I would choose a gravity water purification system, such as a Big Berkey or a ProPur Big. These filters remove everything from viruses and bacteria to chlorine and fluoride, but still leaves the good minerals.
The second option is to buy a temporary filtration mount that hooks up to your kitchen sink’s water faucet using a carbon technology. Aquasana, Brita, Culligan, Dupont and PUR make faucet filters certified to remove contaminants, such as asbestos, chlorine, lead, insecticides, and trihalmethanes.
The third option – more permanent and more expensive – is to install an under the sink water filtration system. There are many systems out there, and they can range in price from hundreds to several thousands of dollars. My personal favorites are Kangen and Perfect Water due to the block carbon filters and where they are manufactured. My Kangen filters also balance alkaline levels of my water, which help lower acid in my stomach.
